We are excited to announce that we have secured some amazing International talent for you for the 2016 Festival 

 

Our line up features

 

 

 

A genuine master of Cuban dancing, El Moro from Sydney.

 

Gene and Tania, from RakaTa, who recently lead their teams to success in both the Open and Rueda divisions at Australian Rueda de Casino Championships in 2015. 

 

We don’t stop there we also bring you some more Cuban with urban flavour with The Dance Pad in Adelaide.

 

 

We round this out with some of  our favourite instructors from Australia with Christina and Israel returning, and of course our very own Creative Director Ms Greydis.

Rotorua Trust funds festival a thrid time

New Zealand Cuban Festival Trustees were extremely thankfull and excitied when Alison Perrin, Donations Assessor for the Rotorua Trust informed the of their wish to continue their support of the Aotearoa Cuban Festival in Rotorua for 2016.

Creative Director Appointed

The New Zealand Cuban Festival Trust is proud to have appointed Ms Greydis Montero Lrianza as the Creative Director for the 2016 Festival.

 

Greydis's work on the 2015 Festival was a key factor in the selection of artistis and wonderful workshop program that we all enjoyed ealier this year.

 

We have challenged Gredyis with delivering an even more enticing and excting program to have you all Feeling the Rhythm of Cuba in March 2016. We cannot wait!!

The New Zealand Cuban Festival Trust which oversees the management of the Festival has released dates for the 2015 event.    It will again be held  in Rotorua from  the 4-6 of March.

 

The Trust's aim is to grow Cuban dance and culture and to showcase this through the annual New Zealand Cuban Festival.

 

The Festival celebrates everything Cuban and introduces Afro-Cuban music and dance programmes to the wider New Zealand and international public.

The Southern Trust has been a proud funding sponsor of a full range of community groups and charitable causes.  The Southern Trust has historically been involved in the funding of a wide range of arts organisations and programmes, including the funding of one-off festivals and other special arts-related functions, as well as the appropriation of funds to meet the needs of existing cultural and artistic institutions.

Infinity Foundation makes a difference to so many community causes every year.

 

Amanda Winter, Grants Supervisor of Infinity Foundation Ltd advised the New Zealand Cuban Festival Trust of their wish to financially support the New Zealand Cuban Festival. 

 

 

 

The New Zealand Cuban Festival Trustees are thrilled with Infinity's generousity which will be used to provide flights and travel for our Festival Instructors.

Pub Charity was established in 1987 to raise funds through gaming machines in hotels and taverns for distribution to grassroots community causes throughout New Zealand.

 

The New Zealand Cuban Festival will benifit from the support of Pub Charity as their donations will ensure our sound and lighting will be superb and this year our dance floor will be expanded and this again is to the generosity of Pub Charity.

CubanFusion celebrate in Street Party style

Cuba Street Mall, Wellington experienced the vibrate sounds and rhythms of Cuban dance and music.  The Inaugural CubanFusion Street Party attracted hundreds of Cuban salsa enthusiasts and Wellington commuters as the percussionists beat the rhythms and as salsa sounds where pumped from sounds systems.

 

 

 

Cuban dancing sensation and international star,  Greydis Montero Liranza along with Rafael Ferrer Noel danced and wowed the crowds with energetic salsa moves whilst nationally acclaimed percussionists Carlos Navae and Mikey Trujillo kept the strong and steady conga and bongo musical rhythms.

Festival hosts Mayoral Civic Reception

The Cubans accompanied the Cuban Ambassador María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro and the Counsellor of the Embassy Manuel Sánchez Oliva at the official opening ceremony of the New Zealand Cuban Festival, to which the group was formally received by the City Mayor, Hon. Mrs Steve Chadwick, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Petera Hudson, and representatives of the Maori community and other local authorities.

 

 

Following the host’s Maori tradition, the speeches of the Cuban Ambassador and the City Mayor were followed by the national anthems of Cuba and New Zealand, sung by the respective delegations. As part of the activity, the representative of Cuba gave the highest authority of the city a screen-print of the famous Cuban artist Amelia Pelaez.
